In Community By Community (ICBC) – Eswatini

In community by community (ICBC) is a holistic ministry model that seeks to establish stronger, healthier communities in Eswatini, Africa located on the northeast border of South Africa. Centered around a local church and preschool, each of the 33 ICBC locations are strategically chosen to reach those most impoverished in the nation. After the pastor’s home and multipurpose school/church building are built, the ICBC chooses and launches its own sustainability project(s). Projects range from farming chickens, goats, pigs, bees, or vegetables to providing resources and job training to the rest of their community. Ultimately, the sustainability project(s) alleviate donor dependency and create financial independence.

GSV Impact: A new sustainability initiative this year is ICBC sites planting and harvesting maize. CLC’s in-country partner, Challenge Ministries Swaziland (CMS), provided ICBCs with seed money for the first year’s crop. Each ICBC harvested enough maize to feed the families of their community and moved any leftover to a newly constructed distribution center where the maize can be stored and/or traded throughout the rest of the country.

Additionally, in the first 9 months of 2023, your faithful giving helped achieve:
• 426 new salvations
• 5 ICBC’s built (9/2022-8/2023)
• 67 baptisms
• 3 wells drilled
• 41,557 people in church on Sundays (sum total in weekly services)
• 7 pastor houses built
• 418,500 meals to community members
• 1,705 homes visited
• 111,410 meals to preschool children
• 857 preschool children sponsored
